WAR IS NOT FOR ME -o- by Dennis L Vasey

I remember my prayers the day before
The day before I went to war
Thank you God for my life
Thank you God for my wife
And all the things I had to say
When I knelt down in the sand to pray
WAR IS NEAR, FOR ME TODAY

Now here we are with noise and dust
To gain the Iraqi peoples trust
To help them live without their tears
And give them hope allay their fears
That we will protect them for as long as we stay
WAR IS REAL FOR ME TODAY

The bullets rip, tear into flesh
Arms and legs give one last thresh
Shells explode, the tanks on fire
Heaps the bodies on the funeral pyre
And all around the smell of decay
WAR IS HELL FOR ME TODAY

Now the world is black as night
For I have fought in my last fight
And now beneath this fog I lie
I feel no earth, I see no sky
This is the price we have to pay
WAR IS NOT FOR ME TODAY
