I have been a pagan for most of my life, since maybe the age of 14. I remember finding no sense in what I was being taught in school about Christianity. I would question the teachers about certain aspects of Christianity but would be greeted with a blank stare, followed with some comment aimed at covering up the fact that they could not answer my question. Christianity seemed so illogical to me, people being cast into a hell for not being a Christian, people being saved for being one. I was disillusioned by it all. At the same time I knew I believed in God, I just could not believe in their concept of God.
I was about 14 when I visited my uncle on his allotment, I don't know how we got onto the subject of religion, but I remember telling him how I found Christianity to be something that I could not embrace, but how I felt I still had God in my life. My uncle told me that I did not have to be a Christian to follow God, and he started to rhyme off a list of religions. I was asking him what different religions believed in and when he came to Paganism, it was like striking a chord. I asked him more and more about it until eventually he said that I should go and ask Teresa his wife who was a pagan. I spent the next few days soaking up as much information as I could gather it was like suddenly finding a Perl in the undergrowth. That was so long ago now and as a pagan I have grown and carved out my own pathway.
Over the years the image of paganism has changed. In my early years of being a pagan, you would get looked at as if you had gone insane, then due to TV and such like, it became the 'in thing' to be a pagan, but none pagan people's concept and understanding of paganism was all twisted and glamorised. You find some people who claim to be pagan, but don't have the first clue as to what paganism is, they think it makes them part of some kind of exclusive club which of course it does not.
That just about brings me to the end of my personal page. It's been a pleasure and a gift being a pagan, and a pleasure to be a part of this community for all the years it has been going. My personal page is well overdue and I have thought about having one on it in the past, but never got around to it. Now with the introduction of the members only forum and other members having personal pages placed on the site, I have decided its time to have my own. I hope you have enjoyed reading my pagan life story.
