Over the years it has been sad to see some stone circles disrupted and sometimes even destroyed. They are precious historic sites that can never be replaced. They do not belong to the pagan community, nor do they really belong to the British people, they belong to whoever finds enjoyment in them.
I would never want to see a situation where stone circles are protected like the Stone Henge complex, but some system need to be in place to protect them from people who wish their removal because 'they are in the way', or its in some companies interest to carry out some activity that might endanger such sites. I agree that its impossible to prevent senseless vandalism, but thankfully I have seen very little of this problem.
You only need look around to see that there is very little in the way of interest for such heritage sites from local or national government. Look at the threat posed to the Nine Ladies stone circle by proposed quarry works, or the recent total destruction of the Mosley Height stone circle, now lost forever, following in the footstep of others before it.
I want to be able to enjoy these sites for the duration of my life, I want my children and my children's children to see them in the same condition that I see them.
